OUR LONG STANDING HISTORY

The groups origins started way back in 1972 by Percy Gill who brought his love of Taekwondo all the way from Singapore to Kendal & subsequently the first club in the area was formed  ‘Kendal Taekwondo’. Since its early origins as Kendal Taekwondo it was then passed onto one of  Percy’s protégé’s Master Phil James (7th Dan) in the 1980’s , who transformed the club & renamed it ‘Cumbria Taekwondo’ expanding it from one location to various locations around South Cumbria, from this point forward Cumbria Taekwondo became a name, and a force, to be reckoned with in and around the country. Master James retired from teaching full time at Cumbria Taekwondo in 2010 and passed the Chief Instructor role over to Master Kevin Thompson (6th Dan) although Master James still remains the President & valued advisor of the club.

Cumbria Taekwondo currently has 3 locations around South Cumbria, the original club in Kendal is now headed up by Master Bev Fallows (6th Dan) who has over 35+ years experience training & teaching in Taekwondo.

Ulverston club is headed up by Master Kevin Thompson (6th Dan), Cumbria’s Chief Instructor, also with over 35+ years experience training & teaching in Taekwondo.

Our Barrow  club is headed up by Keith Bennett (4th Dan) who has over 20+ years experience training & teaching in Taekwondo.
